Dr. Dokainish completed Medical school at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He then completed Internal Medicine and Cardiology Residences at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, followed by Echocardiography Fellowship in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Dr. Dokainish was hired on faculty in the Division of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, USA in 2002 where he remained 7 years, and served as Director of Echocardiography at Baylor College of Medicine for the last 3 years. Dr. Dokainish was recruited back to McMaster University/Hamilton Health Sciences in October 2009 as Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Echocardiography and now also serves as Director of Medical Diagnostic Units and Director of Heart Failure Services at Hamilton Health Sciences. His research interests include echocardiography in the assessment of heart failure, valve disease, cardiac hemodynamics and myocardial function. He was also Principal Investigator of an international heart failure registry named INTER-CHF, and is currently co-PI of G-CHF, a global heart failure study of 25,000 patients in every inhabited continent. Dr. Dokainish has published over 80 peer reviewed scientific articles and 11 book chapters, mainly in the areas of echocardiography and heart failure.
